Why does nature-inspired art bring such a wonderful atmosphere into a home?

It’s about the power of nature, birds, and a painting that invites you to look again, day after day.
I notice it often when clients step into my studio-gallery. They look around, pause before a painting, and suddenly, something happens—a smile, a look of surprise, or someone remarking, “How extraordinary… I could just keep looking at this.”
That is precisely what I love about nature-inspired art: it stirs something within you—a sense of happiness.

A piece of nature—no hiking boots required.

We all spend a great deal of time at home. We want it to be a pleasant space where we can unwind, be ourselves, and enjoy the things that surround us. Yet, I sometimes find that an interior—while beautifully decorated—is still missing that final touch. The furniture is well-placed, the colors are just right, and the accessories have been carefully chosen—and still, it doesn’t feel quite complete.

Often, a striking painting can make all the difference.

Nature-inspired art brings a sense of vitality to a room. Think of the colors of a bird, the motion of its wings, or the subtle transitions between light and shadow. These elements add depth, character, and personality to your interior.
And the best part? You don’t even have to step outside. You can go birdwatching right from your sofa—no binoculars, raincoat, or muddy shoes needed!

Why birds resonate with us so deeply

For years, nature has been a primary source of inspiration for my work. Birds, in particular, hold a special fascination for me. I could watch them endlessly—observing their forms, their postures, their colors, and the way they move. While painting, I translate those observations into my own visual language. I don’t simply copy a bird; rather, I strive to capture its atmosphere, movement, and character. In doing so, I work intuitively, leaving room for my own interpretation.

That is what makes a painting interesting to me: it doesn’t have to show everything literally. Sometimes, the power lies in a loose brushstroke, an unexpected color combination, or a form that you only notice upon a second glance.

And that is exactly what I see happening with my clients. One person might be instantly drawn to the colors, while another is captivated by the bird’s gaze or posture. Everyone sees something different—and that is what makes art personal.

Art that adds something to your interior

When clients are unsure about a painting, I like to look at the space where it will be displayed. What colors are already present? How does the light fall? And, perhaps most importantly: how do you want to feel when you walk into the room?

A large piece of nature-inspired art can bring character to a quiet living room. Colorful birds can provide a striking accent in a neutral interior. Meanwhile, a painting with soft, natural tones can help tie together the various colors and materials within a space.

My advice is always this: don’t just choose a painting that matches your interior—choose one that genuinely brings you joy.

You certainly don’t need to repeat every color from a painting in your cushions, curtains, or accessories. In fact, a bit of contrast can make a space feel dynamic and exciting.

A painting you’ll never tire of looking at

What I personally value most is when a painting remains engaging over time—when you continue to discover something new each time you look at it. A detail you hadn’t noticed before, a color that shifts with the changing daylight, or a bird you suddenly see in a whole new light.

An original painting is far from the generic imagery you see everywhere else. It is a unique piece, born from my own observations, ideas, and personal artistic style.

Perhaps this is the greatest strength of nature-inspired art: it not only brings nature a little closer, but it also gives your home a distinct, personal character.

After all, a home with art is more than just a house—it’s a space that tells a story about who you are. Curious about what nature-inspired art could bring to your interior?

In my studio-gallery in Vlaardingen, you can discover my original paintings featuring birds and other elements from the natural world. I would be happy to take the time to explore which piece best suits you and your home.

Unsure about the right size or color palette? Feel free to send me a photo of your wall. I can create a digital visualization to show you how a painting would look in your own space.

This way, you’ll discover not just what looks beautiful, but—more importantly—which painting brings a smile to your face, day after day.
